...mixtures of indigo, violet, azure, and other dark shades of blue and purple adorn the night sky with pinpricks of light, stars, shining through like sparkling sequins on a navy dress. the sun had gone to rest, its counterpart, the moon, coming to substitute. the moon did not look cheesy tonight, but rather more like a golfball. the buckskin imagined the stars forming a constellation similar to a golf club hitting the moon, which would sail over their heads and into another galaxy--fat chance.
deep inside the damp, cool cave, the stallion nipped the intruder, Belle, and figured that Sunny would not be coming. the golden mare had appeared more subdued and quiet than in her younger days. nevertheless, he huddled alongside the other horse in the cave and closed his lids in a futile attempt to sleep. what he didn't realize was that he was standing right beneath a crack that dripped water due to an underground stream above it. every few seconds, a tear-shaped droplet would splat right on his poll and cascade down his forehead into his eyes and down his velvety muzzle. at first the bronc figured that Belle was fooling around and spitting on his head, so he might as well ignore her. after the process was repeated several times, however, the horse was quite frustrated and marched out of the way...
Belle, you camel, stop spitting on me!
...he whinnied in a rude voice, ears pinned back, to ensure she got the message that he did not think her actions comical...
