$60 an hour was the cheapest rate I could get privates in the US with a decent pro. $50 for amateur coaches - permitted under the USABDA elite couples scheme - and $75 for the best standard coach resident in town. $125 an hour for former Blackpool champions, when they visited, and their lessons were booked up months in advance.
$60 an hour is a good basic US rate, and we were lucky to be getting them that cheap, especially in Boston. The Cambridge University coaches are now £25, which at todays rates is $41.50. Adding studio costs makes that £30 an hour in London, or $49.80. The last $10 can be put down to the higher rents and living costs in Boston and New York, which are certainly significantly higher than south London.
Considering the quality of the coaching, I'd say you get about the same for your money in the US than in the UK - I've got my own preferences as to which of the coaches who go to the IDF are worth the effort. There are duds in every town, here and there.
