We actually belong to four different clubs (!) who run dancing on different nights of the week, three are practices (details in the open circuit section) and one is a social dance. I don't think that there is any particular need for a club (and the biggest annual fee is £6) other than to be able to vet members and ensure a maximum number is kept to in the case of the social one.

None of the clubs run classes, couples take private lessons in general, so I'm not sure if they fit what you would expect a club to provide. It means that you need a partner to dance, people don't swop around on any particular night although you do see men dancing with different ladies depending on which night of the week it is. Avon Amateurs is the most serious but even then the standard is not that high (Cheam is startlingly good in comparison); they run a weekly practice night, occasional social dances with dems and they promote competitions, including EADA ranking events. Avon Am members are more or less expected to do something on a volunteer basis to make it run smoothly.

In the Midlands there is MADC but I don't really know how active they are and in Wales there's WADA, although they're not a club as such, they have a practice night on Thursdays in Cardiff, an annual dance, occasional lecture etc.
