with losing of bodily functions and all. But I more or less agree with you. ;)

This was just an excellent hour of television, and Tim Minear proved he can rock outer space as well as any demon dimension you could mention. So much was great about this episode in terms of writing and directing, plus there was actual jeopardy (which hasn't been very evident in the series but would be a real, day-to-day concern for such a ragtag outfit as Firefly's).

Also, nice setup to compare Mal's love of his ship as "love at first sight". His dopey grin at the very end had me beaming back at the screen. Shades of Captain Kirk and his Enterprise -- *sigh* Who can forget, "... and now I know why -- it's called *she*" (from the TOS ep "Naked Time").

I love Malcolm; I was thrilled with the episode's focus because he's a fascinating character, and it's about time Nathan Fillion got to stretch somewhat in his role and help us fill in some of Mal's blankety blanks. He was less controlled in his line deliveries, a little more nuanced, and the antiquated dialogue seems to have been dialed back, making it feel more organic to the setting.

Still loving all the Chinese. We'll all be picking up some new swear words, if nothing else.
