for the future ... -- Bronco66, 21:00:30 03/01/04 Mon
let us hope for four impact players ... the staff is looking in the Midwest at a JUCO big that could make a difference ... (under the radar as you might guess) ... along with Henke and Angley (who they caution will be just freshmen) and then one more ... position not as important as skill ....
I can see Neisen, Denison, and Perkins forming a strong nucleus with a rested/rejunivated Bailey and Mr. Juco ... with Henke/Legge off the bench ... and perhaps Ethan or Brandon finding their shots ... and who knows Dougherty might also get his all-state form going ... (he has been looking better with PT) --- much of the league is coming back so it will be hard to crack the All-WCC ... but I think if the Broncs relax and play to their potential, with the usual good coaching there could be All-league on the Broncos
injury update ... Rohe is out for the season (having an MRI this week) and his back appearently has been bothering him all year ... which well may explain the drop-off we've seen ... let's hope it works out ok for him ...
this weekend will once again see how the well the Bronco coaching staff can put it together ... two wins is do-able and a "winning" season plus a shot for one more time on national TV ...
Go BRONCOS !!!
ps/ more news for next year to follow ... stay tuned ...

Yo '66 -- JCard, 21:38:14 03/01/04 Mon
Good stuff;now I'm really curious to find out what the signing period wll add. I appreciate your optimism and the info' you provide. Unfotunately, prior commitments preclude me from returning "home" to the BA this weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to listen to DLew call a couple wins.

Re: Yo '66 -- BobBronco, 09:58:48 03/02/04 Tue
I, for one, am not sold on Dennison. I think this season has been a "fluke" for him. Similar to what we saw with Legge his freshman season, after which everyone was convinced he'd be All League. Once defenses start keying on Dennison, he'll be useless.
Here's hoping DD can find more STRONG talent like Graves, Lopez, etc. in the middle.

Re: Yo '66 -- JCard, 21:16:26 03/02/04 Tue
Actually, I don't think he played well enough to call his season a fluke. He had a few decent games. I think he has more upside than Legge, who never seemed to progress after his freshman year. Time, his work ethic and the weight room will tell. I do agree with you that the basic Bronco banger personified by Lopez, Graves, Jens Gordon and Ron Reis would be a nice addition on a team that has been lacking on the interior. Maybe if Neisen grew a few inches and put on 30 pounds...... Of course, thinking back on Graves and even more so with Lopez, they really only produced at a high level for one of their two years. As I recall, Lopez seemed lost in his first season. Hopefully the mysterious midwest juco will fill the bill for his entire Bronco tenure.

Re: Yo '66 -- BroncAlum, 10:21:10 03/04/04 Thu
I predict Dennison will be the most productive Bronco center since Nick Vanos by his Jr/Sr year. He'll be cast from a different mold than Graves or Lopez. Not as strong, but much more active moving across the block, with better hands and better offensive skills by far. No reason why his defense shouldn't be adequate, also.

Hope You're Right and Henke update -- JCard, 18:29:23 03/04/04 Thu
Actually, Denison's probably the best shot blocker they've had since Graves already. I agree about his hand's and feet, but he does need to become strong enough to get and maintain position. A banger would be nice compliment to his hopefully divesified game.
BTW Mitch Henke is the second leading scorer in Metro Minnie/ St. Paul region @ 20.8 points a game. What makes this even more impressive is that his high school has another player, Furman bound Jadee Jones, who is averaging 18.

hey thanks BroncAlum -- Bronco66, 22:47:46 03/04/04 Thu
I will say to me he has been looking better as PT increases ...
obviously this Weekend is a big test ... and should be either a bit of a coming-out ... or a BIG wake up for the "off-season"
The coaches know that the game plan the last two times against USD was somewhat flawed (shooting over the zone is not our speciality ... especially with our "best" ??? 3 pt shooter side lined) ... but "Downtown" Doron was something to watch in the Gonzaga game and J.R. still is a better shot taker than the overall stats show ...
look for someting special Friday night ...
and something special includes tuning up for NEXT year ...
(how about SCU in the Newell ... and the Pit ???) time for the BIG guy to start stepping up ....
Go BRONCOS !!!

Bronco GETs Post Season Award ! ! ! -- Bronco66, 13:01:30 03/09/04 Tue
as I was sitting in my front row seat .... after Last Night's WCC finale
What to my wonderous
ears should I hear????
But the sounds of All-Tournament
... and then a LOUD cheer !!
number one on the list
the Announcer said clear
our own Doron Perkins
a name foes now fear ....
a man with such drive ...
yet humble and quick
he got his award
'fore my camera went click
and as he walked
away in the night
I thought to myself
they now've got it right
CONGRATULATIONS to Doron ... I could just tell he would have rather had just finished play for the championship then have gotten award (???)
maybe someone can tell me when the LAST time an All-Tournament player was not in the Final game ???
(ps/ you probably won't read about this in the Int'l M-N)

All WCC Tourney -- from Non-Finalist Team -- BroncoStats, 15:38:32 03/10/04 Wed
besides our Doron Perkins (2003)
since 1995 (Steve Nash & LMU's Ime Oduck & Mike O'Quinn)
there have been four:
SMC's Frank Allocco (in '99 & '00)
Pep's Bryan Hill & LMU's Jim Williamson (in '97)
in any case .... Doron is a Man to be reconned with ...
and I am GLAD his coach in Oregon had the wisdom to contact SCU ....
WCC POY on the WCC Champion Broncos would be a great way to finish his collegiate carrer ...
