Subject: Last Night and Next Year

LAst night was a heartbreaker. That having been said and refusing to get in a funk about it, there were some positives to build on for next year.
1. Denison hung in pretty well last night showed good feet and was more assertive than I've seen him before. I like his upside even more now.Maybe a visit to BALCO....
2. I don't know if 7 points and 6 rebounds can be characterized as a break out game, but Tibbets seems to have jumped in the rotation in front of both Legge and Borchart. He actually looked confident out there at times and that dunk on Skinner was "posteriffic". He is much more athletic than any other big and now looks like a contributor rather than a roster filler.
3. Perkins will be huge next year. I'll be amazed if he isn't All WCC. If the Bailey v. USF shows up more consistently, ther's not a better backcourt in conference, except thar niether DP or KB really seem to be true points. Hopefully Angley fills that bill, but he has also been up and down this year against lower-level high scholl comptetion. He is a true point guard, tho' his his shooting is suspect.
4. Neisen is the most "bronco" of all the players; It will be fun watching his passion and effort over the next few years, especially as his game is refined. AS M4P has observed, dude does need to play with a bit more control of his fury.
The last basket for the Zags really exposed the Broncos big deficiency: Another big body. If the Broncos have another true center to back up Denison, maybe Turiaff doesn't follow that last shot.(Ifs and buts). Someone to help contain Violette-types would be nice too. Hopefully the mysterious JUCO fills this bill.
Hope the board doesn't go into a coma like it did at the end of last season; it's been a great forum for venting and I've enjoyed "e-speaking" with y'all. I'll keep giving as much info on the recruits as I can find and look forward to your occaisional posts.
Go Broncos/Fear the Pony
PS, Iv've read that Santa Clara will be hosting the Tournament again next year(a switch from USF just voted on by the WCC ADs). Anyone know anything. Also heard that there were a number of fights after the game and that the Bronco student body didn't represent itself well against both USF and the Zags. Anyone know anything?

Random thoughts:

Fights are to be expected when the visiting teams fans storm the court ... not even a final.

Davey probably saved his job by having a strong tourney, good crowds and some sympathy and publicity re his personal tragedy.

Why was JRPatrick sitting on the bench all year?

Where was Borchardt, hurt? He's looked good when I've seen him play.

What's wrong with Legge? He looks awful.

That was a much better Bailey than the last few times I saw him play. I know he didn't lite it up like he did the previous 2 nights but still a good performance.

Gonzaga ain't gonna make no final four.

Violette bulldozed thru the lane on the final Gonzaga basket and should have got charged with a moving screen. Tough but right call for a ref to make on that play.

Heartbreak city. Bailey damn near won the game.

We got too conservative down the stretch. Killing time is OK, but got caught throwing up tough 3s as the shot clock ran out too often.

Overall, it was a great tournament for the Broncos. Dissappointing season, but they should be proud of their efforts this weekend.

In MY opinion:

Denison has made BIG strides since Howell went down ... nothing like PT and HAVING to step up ... to make it happen
... good for HIM ... and good for us ...

a OLD Bronco who probably has followed as much Round Ball as anyone (short of Caroll Williams) at SCU thinks he will be a good on ... I'm inclined to agree ... time for summertime WEIGHTS .... and BIG MAN camp somewhere .... BIG

Doron has made a difference since DAY 1 ... and THANK YOU again Steve Nash ... and folks (and coaches) keep sending in those cards and letters (and tapes) .... and let us know about those scholarship deserving in the Hinterlands ....

and speaking of the Hinterlands ... Mr. JUCO is supposedly the real deal ... let's hope he knows a real deal that SCU is ....

Legge has been "hurt" for a LONG time ... apparently he has some sort of problem with his legs .... some sort of compartmentalized-something-or-other ... that causes some sort of internal "bleeding"???/swelling??? that makes it a real "pain" to play ... the answer ... rest him during the week and hope to get some game time .... Too bad ... we really could use him big time ... just another gritty Bronco playing the DD understated way ... glad he is getting a great education and hope he get better just for himself ....

Borchart had that hand/finger injury all season ??? .... you still see his little finger "wrapped"??? for each game ...

Tibbets ??? .... well DLew called his number from the first practice ... saw a changed man and maybe again PT caught up with his "new" body .... Sean see Lyndon(sp?) for your summertime schedule ...

Kyle ... well Kyle is Kyle ... bless him .... now go home this summer and get the ice-water rotated in your veins and work on being 100% focused this coming year ... and it will be a tough one what with NC State (in the Newell or on campus) in the PIT and with Stanford at home ... no more stall and desperation shot to hold a lead .... stall and good shot maybe even a great dish ....

Ethan ... work, work, work on setting up your own shot ...
we expect the Cable Car MVP of last year to return ...

Brandon ... get well .... really well ... take care of your back ... and your jumper ...

Alex ... thanks for jumping in even after spending a LOooog time on the bench ... and contributing at a high level ...
I hope you take your SCU education and degree and continue to make things happen in your life ...

J.R. --- I seem to remember was still a little banged-up coming into the season ... and took a while to get the form I am sure he enjoyed in JC ... thanks for bringing it ... it was great to watch those moment from Maui on ... and glad they increased ... thanks for choosing Santa Clara over Baylor ... and keep making those good decisions on and off the court ....

Scott ... again enjoyed the moments from Maui to now and look forward to increased PT and production ... I think there is a shot there we need and look forward to you drilling a few in the Kennel ... in front of Mom and Dad ... GU isn't a bad place ... we just like to think SCU is better ...

and Graham "We Hardly Knew Ya" Neuberger .... the couple of "old" St. Mary's folks sitting next to me watching the USF game wondered why DD didn't put you in "earlier" ... I know he's always working ... and so should you ... we liked your 2:14 and keep the production up ... 1 rebound and 1.5 assists (you should have had two) and your averaging 15 and 25 a game ... maybe not realistic but hey ... keep scrambling and those snappy passes ... perhaps some of the best since that Nash kid played at Toso ...

.... so add a PG and a SF who likes to hit the boards and can shoot ... and HAS a brain ... and a BIG to help fill the middle NOW ... and I like our chances next year ....

DD thinks that Gonzaga may NOT be the favorite in the WCC next year ... so who knows what next March brings ....

and I'm with JCard ... lets keep this going ....

whew ... that was a dump ....
