Okay, so someone explain this team to me. Losing to St Mary's wasn't a stunner in and of itself, but 32 friggin' points? The inconsistency this team has shown is very frustrating. Is this a two-tiered conference with GU & the Gaels on one strata and everyone else on the next. I guess I'll act as if this was an aberration until a real pattern manifests itself. The game with the Dons will be telling.

On another note, Angley is a true point who rebounds, passes well and is tough, but he's shooting less than 40% from the floor and only 53% from the line, underscored by recent 2/9 and 1/5 free throw adventures. For a point guard who goes to the hole and gets fouled often, that's a definite "need to improve" area. On the other hand, his team has lost only once or twice since he returned fron his hamstring injury, he's scoring 17 points a game and he dominates the statistical line on a team with 2 other 14 point a gamescorers. He ain't Steve Nash, but he ain't bad.

[> and GUT CHECKS -- Bronco66, 12:55:16 01/24/04 Sat

ah the Consistancy thing ....

a great test is the USF game tonight ... a GUT CHECK for both teams ...

When USF returned from last week's trip to the Pacific Northwest, the players found a few surprises in their locker room at Memorial Gym.

Their names were gone from their lockers. The "We Play Hard" sign they all touch on the way to the court was gone. Trophies from past years were gone. There was a terse message on the chalkboard: "No Heart."

It worked, for the time being. USF beat San Diego 78-68 Thursday night at Memorial Gym, finally earning a West Coast Conference win after three straight losses.

coach Phil Mathews [even took] away the players' spiffy warm-up jackets with the "We Play Hard" slogan on the back. They probably won't be getting those back soon -- certainly not by Saturday night when USF hosts Santa Clara.

Before Thursday's game ... Bill Cartwright...talked about his first year in the NBA with the Knicks, starting off 0-8... That team then made the playoffs. ... It was a gut check.

so which Bronco team will show up ... and for how long??? a big Gut Check ... and a big Reality Check to see where this Bronco Team ranks ... Three League Losses will probably still mean a #2 seed in the tournament ...

GO BRONCOS ...
