Subject: and GUT CHECKS
In reply to: JCard 's message, "Reality Bytes (bites?)" on 21:05:02 01/23/04 Fri

ah the Consistancy thing ....

a great test is the USF game tonight ... a GUT CHECK for both teams ...

When USF returned from last week's trip to the Pacific Northwest, the players found a few surprises in their locker room at Memorial Gym.

Their names were gone from their lockers. The "We Play Hard" sign they all touch on the way to the court was gone. Trophies from past years were gone. There was a terse message on the chalkboard: "No Heart."

It worked, for the time being. USF beat San Diego 78-68 Thursday night at Memorial Gym, finally earning a West Coast Conference win after three straight losses.

coach Phil Mathews [even took] away the players' spiffy warm-up jackets with the "We Play Hard" slogan on the back. They probably won't be getting those back soon -- certainly not by Saturday night when USF hosts Santa Clara.

Before Thursday's game ... Bill Cartwright...talked about his first year in the NBA with the Knicks, starting off 0-8... That team then made the playoffs. ... It was a gut check.

so which Bronco team will show up ... and for how long??? a big Gut Check ... and a big Reality Check to see where this Bronco Team ranks ... Three League Losses will probably still mean a #2 seed in the tournament ...

GO BRONCOS ...
