thanks GoBroncs -- and nice to know you are still around ...
I've seen maybe 50% of the Broncos games this year and must agree Niesen and Perkins are great additions ... and bring a fire to the team ... Howell usually does and the last two games have been ... well
dismal
I do believe they ran into two buzz saws ... SMC after the loss/possible win
in Spokane ... and USF after Mathews took all their "We Play Harder"
stuff and other goodies (including their free sports drinks and chairs
in the locker room) away. So I guess they just have played HARDER ...
(the first half at least the Broncs defense was OK ... the offense is just not
there ...
This should have been a good check to see where the Broncos really were/are
this year ... I hope this is not it ... It sure sounds like DD is a bit
frustrated (the last couple of pre-game interviews) ... this is a team where
it's not clicking ... Kyle just doesn't seem to have what it takes ... slow ...
shot not making it .. and neither is Brandon's or Ethan's ... we need one
shooter to step up in each game ... that hasn't always happened ...
When I have seen them play inspired and heads ups ... they can stay with
about anyone they have played ... but just don't seem to have the team killer
instinct ...
another REALLY big test this week ... Portland and Gonzaga at Leavey ... stop
Jetter and Wilson .. and try and stay with the ZAGs ....
the season continues ...

Re: USF game -- Marlon4Prez, 17:00:48 01/26/04 Mon
Sorry I have been absent, but I was so sick...from these performances against our rivals. However, calling out to the fact that DD should be fired is absolutely absurd. This team has a lot of growing up to do, and for some reason, it became very apparent up in Moraga. On Saturday for anybody that went to the game...I drove from the CV, it was obvious that DD was in a more important family crisis. SCU is such a close knit team that I am sure it carried over to affect the team as well. Stop being such instant self gratifiers.
Also, with regards to certain members of the team playing well, I think Travis is getting too much credti. He is a close sedcond on the team in TO's. No more obvious is the teams growing up then the increasingly high amount of turnovers he has in a game...especially for a forward. Although I agree he is playing well, his "monster" status is creating quite a bit of efficiency problems.

Neisen & Rohe -- JCard, 19:31:21 01/26/04 Mon
I've noticed the TO's on the linescores too....I think they'll reduce some degree with maturity and improved decision making, but given his aggressive approach to the game, I bet the numbers will always be relatively high. A consistent 15-17 foot "j" would help him, too.
Since I've so far been limited to TV and Radio for live coverage of the team, let me ask you this:what's up with Rohe? I know his back was a problem early in the season, and had a tough last third of a season last year, but he's certainly not as productive as I expected. Is some of it the lack of a consistent defensive effort?
I think you make a good point about this team needing to "grow up", but for this season the growth spurt needs to come quickly or the Broncos will stare down the barrel of an untenable playoff scenario.

Re: Neisen & Rohe -- Marlon4Prez, 21:21:37 01/26/04 Mon
I think those are very good questions. Rohe in my opinion is lacking in the PT category due to his slowness on the defensive end. In the games I have witnessed, it is a definite D step off going from Rohde to Rohe, and that is saying a lot, because Rohde is not the swiftess of feet.
In response to Travis, there comes a distinction between playing hard and playing out of control. He does a very effective job, but hie is out of control most of the time. He needs to learn that he can play hard without being out of control. Right now...the past two games, he has been more of a liability than help. Also, our leadership truly lacks in the performance category. We maybe have 1 all wcc player, and I could not even tell you who that is. Esp. after Kyle deliverd a 1 for10 this past weekend. It is no longer preWCC, it is time to step up or play the unfortunate lower half game in the tourny.

Re: Neisen & Rohe et. al. -- Bronco66, 00:17:54 01/27/04 Tue
my best wishes go out to DD and his family ...
... yes Travis seems to make dumb mistakes with the TOs ... and he also hangs in there and takes the charge ... too bad those "reverse" TO's don't show up ... and remember he's just a sophmore ... that did not play that much last year ...
Brandon has never been one to play big D ... and that keeps him on the bench ... if you noticed the "subtle" things he has done this year (let his hair get even shaggier ... had a try at a beard ... cut it off ... shaved his head) I would say he has been "experimenting" and his shot (while the best 3 on the team) doesn't seem to be in stride ... part of all that I am sure was because of his "injury" (bad back) ... and who knows how much of that is sophmore jinx ..
if it wasn't for Doron who know where we would be ... and where we are going ...
will Kyle play back into form?? will Doron find the 3 he had in JC and showed in the early 1st half a week ago??? .. will Ethan start to shoot/make more 3's ... will J.R. play more to his capabilities???
LOTS of ?????s to be answered ... and a heck of a home stand to see what they might be ... all is not lost it's not even 1/2 way through the League ... but a split at home is almost a necessity ....
we got Pepperdine and LMU early ... and may have suprised them ... a split with USF was not my druthers ... but not all that bad ... SMC away is ok (let's just call that score a real aboration) ....
Go BRONCOS ... find a way to play a solid 40 against Portland ... and stop the 3's like you did against Pepp ...

Re: Dick Davey -- Bronco66, 21:49:04 01/27/04 Tue
no problem about the ignorance ... I'm kinda with you on it
in the papers it said that DD did not do his usual post-game press interview(s) because he had to leave for a family medical emergency ...
from some postings I would surmise that it was something known before?/during? game time ...
I would guess it was serious enough for him to leave right after the game but not during/before it ....
I hope (and pray) for the best for him and his family ...
if anyone can shed more light please do so ...
thanks
