There is an excellent post further down explaining how cheating truly affects all dancers in a competition, from those trying to win, to those aiming for a recall, and everyone in between.

And I agree with the person who replied saying that kids who love dance want to compete at a high level. It's so tough to balance the healthy desire for competition and the fun we have at majors with the reality that majors are tainted from top to bottom. It's not enough to tell a competitive and talented child to "just do your best and don't worry about results" when the ability to recall/NQ/WQ/podium/win is there.
