Subject: Our TC has stories of cheating at the worlds and All Irelands going back over 50 years.
In reply to: We're New Here 's message, "Is Irish Dancing Dead or Dying?" on 14:12:22 02/11/25 Tue

All the positives you mentioned are still there. Passion for the dance, pride in performing and demonstrating the beautiful artform, kids and adults getting great exercise in a social setting, etc.

But at the core, there is a culture obsessed with image, power, and being on top at all costs. This is not a recent development. Our TC has seen over the decades horribly abusive treatment of dancers, favors and cheating taking place at the highest level of competition, and vicious feuds amongst dance schools.

Irish dance is alive today in spite of itself. If it wasn't such a spectacular and beautiful form of dance that stuns everyone who sees it, it would have folded by now. It is truly only for the love of the dance that it's survived. The CLRG and many people involved at the highest level have done all they can to gain power and prestige at the cost of integrity, affordability, and inclusivity.
