OK, let's lay it out right here...
While we all can agree to be glad that Saddam is out of there, that's not my issue with this whole war. It is mostly the arrogance of Bush and friends thinking and telling America that we would be in and out with very few casualties, and that this would be a quick war, over in months. After buying into that theory initially, I soon came to realize that it was a bullshit position. I know from history that countries with large fanatically religious (Muslim or otherwise) don't just lay down and surrender at the first sign of trouble (from the Crusades to Bosnia). Was the war in Iraq the right thing to do? Right now it is, because we're already there. We can't sit and wonder what if because "if" is done with. Either Bush or Kerry will have to continue it--it's not as if Kerry steps in and we roll up the tents. The past is done, we (you) are there, and we have to do the job right. Whether Kerry can do that, I don't know yet (no one does), but I'm not encouraged with Bush's progress from a leadership role. When you are in charge of any operation, be it a fraternity, a band contest, or a full-scale war, you have to accept a large part of the responsibility for any failures that may occur. And yes, if things get worse if Kerry is elected, I will be among those pointing the finger at him. You'll hear from me either way.
As far as the missing weapons, well, you would know better than I. Chalk it up to media misinformation again. I just won't talk about the war anymore, since I am apparently uninformed. Knee jerk reaction, which I tend to criticize, and deserve criticism for when I do the same...
Finally, about my voting status and party affiliation. I have financial reasons for maintaing my Wisconsin residency, so that would be my choice regardless. That said, some points to make clear: My affiliation with the Democrats is closer to home than the White House or Congress. I have seen a personal and family friend bombarded by underhanded, groundless attacks on his character by a Republican candidate funded mostly by out-of-town money and local residents (whom I also know personally) who are trying to basically buy an election for their own special interests. Furthermore, my vote will mean more in a swing state like Wisconsin than in Illinois, which Kerry has fairly strongly, and which Barack Obama may win by a 3-1 margin over Alan Keyes. I also cannot support a party that chooses the likes of Tom DeLay among its leadership, opposes a woman's right to choose, and continually launches attacks on the overall quality of our public schools (often masked as "helpful" programs like NCLB). Quite simply, though the war is the hot topic on this forum, that's not what decided the election for me. I had my mind made up months ago. Plus, Bush traded Sammy Sosa. There's a lack of foresight for you.
Hope this clears things up. You know better what's going on over there, so I'll keep my mouth shut for now. Keep up the good work.
