Managed to see decent bits of the start of each test but not anything else though had the chance to listen to a lot of it. Again have to rely a certain amount on the press, etc.

I have no argument with your critisism of Strauss and yes he does seem to have a problem with full pitched bowling early on. However his overall record and very good recent series form, in my opinion, should give him plenty time to improve and modify his technique for such conditions. With such a recent emphasis on keeping a team together with no knee jerk decisions dropping him would seem to me to be a very bad idea, especially when the player coming into the team (Colly) has major questions marks over him as well. If we were to follow your argument to its logical conclusion Flintoff would never have played more than a handful of tests.

His career average however is probably below what is expected whereas those above him are not in that position. Your argument seems to be that if a top six averaged 50 and seven averaged 20, a tour where the top six averaged 35 and seven 20 would be a success for seven. However I have few problems with Jones and would keep picking him in the current system. I would though pick Read as a clearly superior keeper if I was to go with my policy of dropping the spinner and playing Collingwood instead, therefore creating the keeping slot at 8.

I really believe in have an attack with a bit of variation but when your spinning options are as poor as ours this does not just mean you should pick one for the sake of it. In the past two years I'd say all of the England team has improved aside from Giles and Vaughan, and Vaughan has improved as a captain and was an outstanding player at the time, Giles was not. I feel his standards have dropped over the past ten months and at his age thats a bad sign. I'll bet you a pint if he plays in more than one test in India he will not take his wickets at under 45, 35 should be the absolute bare minimum in such conditions. He is no longer any use at his current performance levels and should be dropped.
