Actually, I haven't read DK2 either. I've still got my copies of DK1 though. I'm not sure if I'll buy DK2...it would have to look awfully good for me to spend $ on it, I think.
In regards to bashing the 80's creators, I kind of look at it like everyone bashing John Travolta. Sure, they have their ups and downs, have big egos (John Byrne), and aren't as "cool" as they once were, but deep down, you're rooting for them to do something that will put them on top again. I think some of the older creators have become pretty dated, including George Perez, Byrne, Chris Claremont, and others, but deep down (and not really that deep down) I still like them and appreciate the hard work that they put into their work.
