Hi Druid,

>If 'crystal' dowsing works then surely a blind person
>only has to ask their 'crystal' to show positive,
>negative etc and a witness or witnesses to take note
>of how the 'crystal' responds.

I spend a lot of time on my own with my crystal, free from any distractions, building a bond between my crystal and myself. This would not be practical for anyone with impaired sight, as I have found out from my own experiences where my crystal has been known to answer a question asked by Chris whilst I have not been paying attention.

>Involuntary or unconscious movement means you are
>unaware of it so how could you counteract it??

I feel it’s a little bit like a sobriety test, where the removal of the sense of sight affects the body’s ability to balance therefore creating even more involuntary movements.

>What you seem to be implying here is that the answers
>are collusion between the dowser and the witness.

Only if the witnesses are needed to interpret the answers. If they are unaware of the responses they cannot influence the outcome.

>The witness should be clearly instructed as to what
>way the 'crystal' will respond to yes/no etc, and not
>have to rely on the dowser to confirm an answer.
>Also, anyone who had a hand in compiling the questions
>Should Not be allowed to participate in the experiment
>as a witness.

In an ideal world I would agree with you entirely. However, in order to keep a small team at a location to maintain a controlled environment for other work, it is not practical to have an excessive amount of people present. The first set of questions could be compiled outside of the location by an independent person or persons but once these results have been analysed, further questions are then compiled on location in order to cross examine the original results and dig deeper.

>If you can’t be sure your communicating with anything
>as the above comments suggests whom do you think is
>moving the 'crystal'?

As a Paranormal Investigator that is what I am trying to find out!!

>The problem with 'crystal' dowsing and any other
>method that relies on a yes/no answering system is
>that everybody can achieve a 50% success rate.

But in theory there are at least six possible combinations. Clockwise, counterclockwise, North to South, East to West, juddering and motionless. So with practice and experience you train your crystal to give more than just two answers.
I personally have held my crystal over a photo album and although it wasn’t moving about, I wouldn’t have considered using it as a plumb-bob

>Given that the odds using this method are pretty much
>50/50 why do the calculations regarding the Derby Gaol
>experiment fail to take into consideration what
>percentage of answers could have been predicted by
>‘chance’?

During the first session there were 8 out of 10 identical answers which taking into consideration a 50/50 chance is still high. As the Derwent Paranormal Investigators are committed to telling the truth, we have also published the second set of results using three dowsers, which paints a different picture.

>So you concede that a single dowser could be making up
>anything.
>Isn't it also conceivable that 2 0r 3 people could be
>simply making it up also??
>Just because 3 people get the same result to a
>question doesn’t mean all 3 aren’t making it up.
>Considering they only have two basic answers to work
>with getting one or two questions out of ten the same
>is not difficult.
>As for mediums, if two dowsers can communicate with
>the same 'spirit' as your experiment suggests surely
>two spiritualist mediums could do the same.
>I have been corresponding with Colin Fry lately on
>another matter but I shall pose this question to him
>and post his reply for you.

Of course a single dowser could make something up. I am certain that even you could prove a convincing dowsing. After all when did you last watch a paranormal programme where the person there to communicate with the spirits said, “Sorry folks, I’m not getting anything at all, we may as well go home”. There will always be someone who wants to make a name for themselves and come up with something come hell or high water. So for our own piece of mind we do not dowse alone.
Yes 2 or 3 people could just as easily make it up but as I have said before we are not afraid to publish our results whether the answers are identical or all different. I have seen numerous results from mediums at Derby Gaol and all have come up with different answers. I look forward to seeing your answers from Colin Fry.

Regards,
Eleanor
