Good for you Alan...it's nice to see someone display good sportsmanship. Cheer for the team that knocks you out. The further they go...the better you look. I grew up with Dickie and he was a great kid. But I can remember listening to his broadcasts in the mid to late 70s and, apparently, not much has changed. I can remember the on-air rants about this bad call or that missed call. Like father..like son. Don't get me wrong..from what I remember, of Dickie and his father, they were nice people. But when they got behind the microphone it was only a matter of time before something would "unleash the beast". Dickie should have learned a little from listening to Cawood broadcasts(constructive criticism). As for the team refusing to accept their trophy I am only somewhat surprised. Teenagers can sometimes be quite immature. But for Mike Flynn allowing it to happen is a childish atrocity. Is this the type of leadership that the parents and faculty endorse for their children. If Mike Flynn has this kind of control of his team, or actually approved of this type of behavior, it might be time for change. It always seemed to be tough for Ashland fans to accept defeat, by smaller schools, without lame excuses. Especially, before consolidations, when all the schools in the region were smaller and the Tomcats were the "king of the hill". Most of the fans weren't really like that, but there were always the few that could never seem to swallow their pride, say "good game", and move on. Winning isn't everything. Losing builds character. Some of the Tomcat fan(atics), past and present, could use a lot of losing until they learn to deal with it.
