Subject: 2003 District Champs

Well folks,..it's tourney time again and once again the Cats are on the move. On Friday night, the Tomcats and Rose Hill once again battled it out for the 64th District title. And for the second year in a row, the Cats came out on top,...55-52 in overtime. I think Dicky Martin summed it up best after the game that Rose Hill may be a good team, but when it comes to championship games they just don't have it in them.
Case in point. In the All "A" championsip game they lost. The same result happened in last year's district and regional games. Rose Hill's all time won-lost record in the 64th district tornament is 2-11 with both wins coming against Boyd County.
In my opinion, for a team that is allowed to go out and recruit it's players to be more competitive they just don't seem to be getting the right combination. Friday's championship game showed a big difference between the two teams. Ashland played together as a team while Rose Hill was depending on their Two name players to carry them thru.
Ashland rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit by outscoring the Royals 17-3 from the start of the 3rd quarter. The Cats relied on a tough defense the the Royals couldn't solve. OJ Mayo showed he can't handle a tough defense, commiting turnover after turnover. Their other top player, Dawson was just as ineffective against the Cats.
If I'm not mistaken the 52 points the Royals had was their lowest total of the season. Now if all holds up,....the Cats and the Royals should wind up meeting for the 16th Region title next week in Morehead. Can the Cats do it again??,...The odds appear to be in their favor.

GO CATS!!!
