Subject: Help! Need a cranze iron for Mariner 40 ASAP.

Looking for a cranze iron for a Mariner 40. In Tonga now about to cross to New Zealand and an anchoring incident bent the dolphin striker and cracked the lower attachment point on the cranze iron. Anyone have one laying around or know of any foundry that has cast one before? I know it's a long shot, but crossing with a makeshift repair is not to appealing. That said, anyone have experience in some repair options?

Thanks,
Ryan

If done correctly, a brazed repair will hold better than the original material. Where you get into trouble is taking something to someone who really doesn't understand the process and either underheats the base metal resulting in little to no capilary attraction, or overheats causing a heat affected zone that will produce micro fractures.

Make sure you have it done by someone who knows how to.

Shalimar and Architeuthis (M31 #9) both made it to New Zealand okay after Ryan cleverly jury rigged his cranse iron. I figured I'd post the link to the video to see if any revived interest might result in a cranse iron for Shalimar...
