I finally managed to get keys from Japan and got my lock working. That's the good news. The bad news was that I was unable to get keys for anyone else. Hori will not sell blanks. The will only sell keys that have been cut. I was also unable to get any response at all to emails sent in english. The way I finally got my keys was by contacting a friend who speaks Japanese and happened to be in Tokyo. She physically went to Hori with the code I gave here off of the side of my lock and they cut the keys. I wanted to get keys for Bruce and Randall as well but I couldn't figure out how to get the codes from you guys and make the transaction happen given short window of time and the difficulty of communicating over distance and time zones.

So I guess that the end result is that it is possible to get keys from Hori but not key blanks. In order to be successful, you need to have the code that is stamped on the side of the lock (should be the same as what is on the key). It also seems that you have a much better chance if you have someone that can speak Japanese.

Oh yeah, the keys that I got didn't actually open my lock at first. I had to take the lock and the keys to a locksmith (Cal Coast Locksmith in Goleta, CA). They had to re-key the lock for me. Either Hori's records were wrong and they cut the key incorrectly, or (and I think this is more likely) the lock had been re-keyed by a previous owner. Cal Coast did a great job and actually took the time to pick the lock, take it apart, and figure out what was going on so I'd definitely recommend sending your lock to them if you're having problems. They were the 4th or 5th locksmith I tried to get help from and the only one that was helpful.

Interesting news. Thanks for the efforts, Jared. Least we now know it's possible.
