Subject: Redesigning Bow Pulpit

I'm wondering if anyone out there has redesigned their bow pulpit/platform? We have Kaaluna, a Mariner 32, Hull 61. We live aboard and have been doing an extensive refit for the last 7 - 8 years. We've never felt that the bow platform was all that safe and are planning on redesigning it to have it reach past the forestay, angle wider as it comes back to the hull and redesign the rail so that it is a higher double rail. And to mark us as even more crazy, we are thinking of replacing the wood sprit with stainless at the same time. Just thought I'd see if anyone else out there has tackled anything along those lines?

We've already rebuilt the decks, bulwarks and cabin sides, largely rebuilt the engine, pulled, refinished and recapped the masts ourselves and done innumerable other projects over the last 8 years. So the scale of the bow project is not beyond us, just looking to see if anyone has any ideas. Yes, we're crazy, but we love the Mariner.

Thanks for your input.

Kim

If I ever get to do that , I would make it like the Young Sun 35 https://www.google.com/search?q=young+sun+35&biw=1366&bih=673&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=D-4XVfHYDsawggTaoAM&sqi=2&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#imgdii=_&imgrc=4mW1vphX6ZsnFM%253A%3BElXafwXelhxa6M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fsacsmarine.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F667636_0_230620101357_14-500x375.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fsacsmarine.com%252Fyoung-sun-cutter%252F%3B500%3B375

Exactly! I love the look of that one. Thanks for posting it, it will help me to get my spousal unit to visualize what I'm talking about. We've been having trouble finding someone to do the the stainless work, so now he's talking about doing it himself. It just means more tools and more adventures!
