If you don't have forward lower shrouds in the mizzen, it will not stay up without the triatic. The masts are not vertical, they are supposed to lean back about 3-5 degrees. The decks on our boats are not made from mold, so I doubt that you will find the right answer comparing her to the other boats, there will be a little difference from boat to boat. So ... But I believe that the center of the mast should be strait inline between the upper shrouds. That should be the right place.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

That's how she's set up now, inline with the uppers and with a bit of rake.

I just got to wondering about failure of the triadic or loss of the main, and what might be done in such a disaster. Too much time on my hands with her out of the water for the winter.

Since we don't venture out in conditions where we'd be likely to lose the main, I don't really worry about that. Our triadic is a line led from the main through a block at the mizzen head and down to a cleat, so periodic inspection and replacement is what I do now. It can also be undone and cast off without too much difficulty, so maybe I'll go find something else to be paranoid about.

Again, thanks for the reply.
