Subject: Mizzen support

Aloha,
As I'm sure a number of you know of the lack of mizzen mast support on the M31, was wondering what others have done to remedy this issue. Mine has not gotten bad yet, but I can see that there is a little bit of sag starting to happen. Was looking for options on stopping/reversing the sag without having to drop mast and tear into the deck. Please let me know or if you have any photos/schematics.
Mahalo,
Mike

I built a frame directly below the mizzen with kiln dried fir. I found the tightest grain wood I could find, and connected the posts to the hull with fiber-glassed in sockets. The support beam directly below the mizzen was a wedged in after loosening the shrouds and cap-stays significantly. It has held up well. There are no specs or schematics. I built it in place. Can take and send photos if you like.

Hi Bruce,
Pictures would be great to see. There is a small cupboard directly under the mizzen mast, which I'm guessing is going to need to be removed. Any pictures would be great. Thank you so much.

Hello Michael. Please email me at gitanovela@gmail.com and I will send pictures. You will have to run the beam directly through the cabinet. That space on Gitana Vela (M31#95) was converted to instruments and wiring. I installed my propane sniffer control panel there.
Best regards
