Subject: Auto Pilot Solution

If you are interested I used a 3d printer to create brackets to adapt Autohelm series ST-4000 autopilots for the Mariner's worm gear steering and wooden ships wheel. It's a working prototype but did great during day sails off Ensenada. One problem with solo sailing the Mariner is that it is difficult to mount an autopilot since it does not have a pedestal and the old wood ships wheel is not compatible with newer autopilots. Makes it hard to go to the bathroom or get something to eat or drink. With the remote I can actually lay in the cabin and adjust the steering now. I would be interested in any other autopilot/windvane solutions as I want redundancy. I have considered changing the steering to cables by adding a quadrant to the rudder post and mounting a steering wheel and pulleys on the rear bulkhead.

Fyi, my boat has electric motor conversion which I upgraded to Lithium batteries. Currently in Ensenada, MX. Current projects include using 12v cooler parts to adapt the Mariner's built in icebox to 12v electric. I sealed the area leading to the cockpit and mounted the cooling elements there with exhaust fans and ducts leading to the bilge area. Working prototype I plan to improve, but it's cool a beer down to drinkable range and make vegetable last longer. I mount flexible solar panels wherever I can.
