Subject: Perkins 4-107 coolant temp sensors

Hello Again: A conversation with the perkins pacific guy in Vancouver, WA lead to him saying just bring in your two sensors and we will see if we have one that might supercede the old ones...HMMMMMMM, He also suggested checking w/ Nappa auto on universal senders that are the right size. Does anyone know why there are two coolant temp sensors on the engine? My manual dosn't list the resistance of the sensors when they are working properly; does anyone know how to test them?
Thanks,
Marcus

I don't know what you are up to with your motor, but I just replaced the temp guage on my 4-107 with a quality mechanical temp guage made by AutoMeter. The only important sending unit location as far as I'm concerned is located just upstream of the thermostat on the forward end of the cylinder head. I now know the temperature of the coolant as it leaves the motor and the guage is legible in all conditions! The former owner of my boat had the sender located on the exhaust manifold for some reason unknown to me...
