Subject: Replace the guage
In reply to: marcus 's message, "Perkins 4-107 coolant temp sensors" on - Tuesday - 08/22/06 - 2:40am

I don't know what you are up to with your motor, but I just replaced the temp guage on my 4-107 with a quality mechanical temp guage made by AutoMeter. The only important sending unit location as far as I'm concerned is located just upstream of the thermostat on the forward end of the cylinder head. I now know the temperature of the coolant as it leaves the motor and the guage is legible in all conditions! The former owner of my boat had the sender located on the exhaust manifold for some reason unknown to me...
