Greg, When I rebuilt mine on the M-40, I used oak, I also redid the bow sprint and the beam that goes under it. When I made the bit, I built it around a stainless steel beam that I bolted to the lower bow under the deck. It's probably over built, but the bit takes alot of force under certain conditions. I have a bunch of sketches if you want to see what I did. I'll try to tag a picture on too. Gordon
