She sees Goldy slip away from the group and she knows that no horse should be out there alone - especially not a foal. She looks around, seeing if anyone else noticed. When she sees that no one has, she tosses her head back in the direction that Goldy had taken off to. Her eyes shimmer with determination as she quickly frees herself from the tangled mass of horses and gallops off. The rain pelts her soaked back, she can almost feel the welts form, but she continues on. Down by the pond she thinks she sees the filly. The water is rising so quickly, she watches as the clear liquid as ut spills over the bank and cascades down the hill that Goldy is trying to climb. The mare pumps her legs harder until she can spot the little one. A small river flows around her legs and is getting deeper all the time. The tall grass is submerged with water, and the lead mare stuggles to keep Goldys head above. The current tugs on her legs persistantly and several times she considers giving up, but then she sees Goldys scared eyes, round with innocence and she knows that she can't forfit, she can't give in for herself, because that would be surrendering Goldy as well. She wouldn't let the storm get the best of them. Holding her breath, the mare ducks under the flood, and under the filly. When she rises again, Goldy is secure on her back as she continues to slosh through the maze of weeds. Growing tired, she yelps a little, hoping someone can here her cry. The water was up to her chest now that she was nearing the bottom of the hill and she wasn't sure how much farther she could carry on this way.
