Hi Frank

I am filled with trepidation about this upcoming
release.

The idea of not only remixing the existing 4 tracks on which the original sessions were recorded, but also parsing and
digitally separating the individual sounds that were recorded on those tracks, is a real minefield.

I have not been a fan of any of the Beatles remixes so far. In fact I am deeply saddened at what was done to the 99.9%
perfection of the original Abbey Road album.

Even though only 4 track technology was used to record Revolver, it remains a true gem of mid 1960's audio art.

"devolving" the tracks into separate instruments will leave each instrument or vocal with a digital cardboard quality that diminishes the
depth of the sound stage and gives off an entirely artificial vibe.

The only release of the new mixes that I can give a subtle nod to
is Sgt.Pepper, simply because there had never been a stereo
mix that was authorized by the 4 group members.

They had collaborated fully on the Mono mix, but were not even present for the 1967 stereo mix. (it is sad and predictable that the 2 elements most enhanced (in volume)in the new mix are the bass and drums).

The other albums thus far released in remixed form, most obviously Abbey Road, had no such excuse for a re mix.

Revolver will be the first one of the great studio era albums to be digitally vivisected to create separate
tracks for each element of the song. Due to the limitations
of 4 track recording, originally each of those 4 tracks could contain 3
or more sounds with overdubbing. That track could then be treated with echo or reverb before being mixed down (along with the other 3) to the final 2 track stereo master, or single track for dedicated mono.

Once those tracks are dissected (or extracted if you prefer) in the digital domain, the
original tonal qualities of each of the 4 tracks will be noticeably altered.

It boggles the mind that the pioneering work, experimentation and technical advancements created by George
Martin and his team, along with serious input from the band,
are being deemed passe or flawed in some way.

It seems deeply disrespectful and altogether unnecessary.
