*** Back in 1979 Tinker Carlin came into the Villa Inn Lubbock where we were all staying and told everyone that he was an original Cricket ***

Did you ask him how drunk he was when he made that statement? :)

Seriously, that's just nuts-He had no connection to *any* of Buddy's "groups" as far as being a member of any of them... He wasn't associated with Buddy & Bob (and again, Bob Montgomery was *not* a Cricket), nor was he a member of the Two Tones or Three Tunes...

We're back to anyone whoever played with Buddy Holly, even in the slightest capacity either claims to have been a Cricket, or have people saying they were a Cricket. Some kid who might have replaced Buddy's guitar strings might as well have Crickethood dubbed on him at that rate.

There were *no* Crickets fronted by Buddy Holly *before* 1957 and 'That'll be the Day'. Anyone claiming Crickethood before then is blowing smoke or gaslighting. I'm sure it made a good story for them, and they could bask in any undeserved attention of someone buying them a drink so they could say they talked with somebody who played with Buddy and were a Cricket. It may make a good tavern story, but there's no truth to it.
