 My comment about ears ringing after a concert and the band not sounding as good as the record is basically every rock (or "rock and roll") show I've ever attended.

I've heard jazz bands for example that sounded great. Vocalist singing on key, the soundboard mixed perfectly and at a volume that didn't cause permanent hearing loss.

I'm sure an Everly Brothers show in 1963 sounded wonderful, but that was unfortunately before my time. I started attending rock shows in the 1970s, and by then the experience was not great. More spectacle than anything else. And I won't even mention the behavior of some of the audience.
