I know exactly what you're talking about, and have seen it myself... The same issues that plague Buddy Holly impersonators/tribute acts also plague Elvis Presley, but in the case of Elvis, it's usually a white jumpsuit, sunglasses, and a hair-do that's not even the style he wore when he was in his jumpsuit phase...

And back to Buddy, you're right, it certainly wouldn't be too hard to find a slim 20 something to play him. I just don't want it to end up like 'The Buddy Holly Story' where a 33/34 year old, who looked it, was playing him...
