That certainly is an excellent excerpt from an essential
book. It's rather ironic that after Mr. Goldrosen's years of hard work and research, the production company that bought the movie rights chose to ignore so many of the true events in favour of a fantasy version for the eventual screenplay.
I had the tremendous good fortune to meet Mr. Goldrosen
during my first journey to Lubbock, on Buddy's birthday
in fact.
He generously autographed my hardcover copy
of "Buddy Holly - His Life and Music" which is the
original title.
I regret not having the time or opportunity to have a coffee
with Mr. Goldrosen, although my own knowledge of the Holly story was limited to the available books at the time, and liner notes to boxed sets etc. I'm not sure my questions would have been very original.
I have a vague memory of a brief talk he may have given to a group of fans, but my main recollection is that he was an easy going fellow with a quiet manner.
On this anniversary of his birth,I do want to wish the soul of Buddy a sincere thank you for
his awesome contribution to rock and roll, melodic pop, and
general inspiration to thousands of kids who took up the guitar.
Buddy, you are still deeply missed!
