 I can only relate what Bill told me. He said that in 1986 some 2 years after Norman passed away, Vi found boxes of tapes in a storage area at the studio. She had no intention of searching through them herself and knowing full well that MCA held recoding rights to Buddy's songs, she contacted them. Hoffman was despatched to Clovis but Bill was not clear as to whether he loaded the tapes onto the machines himself and played through them OR whether he took them ALL (supposedly) back to Universal. It would seem to me that Vi would have had a very good look around the place during this "clean out" and disposed of everything she could. Once this information reached the ears of Maria Elena (according to Bill) this is when the legal wrangles began. They had not been resolved when I spoke with Bill in 1992 some 6 years after MCA took control of the tapes via Hoffman.
