In the early '60s, all the early rock-and-roll bands had "Louie, Louie" on their playlists, and the vocal-word varieties of these bands were something out of this world. You could barely hear the words (which was the intent), but lots of sexual expressions and a frequent F bomb.
I liked the song by the Kingsmen, of course (still do), and it inspired me to write a frat-rock tune that had a similar chord structure. In my song, you can hear the words, but it has sexual innuendos. Hence, the title, "I Want to Love You."
(I met the vocalist, Jack Ely, in the late '90s and he gave me a great interview with a ton of detail. He didn't hold back. It's the first chapter of my book, "Eleven Unsung Heroes of Early Rock and Roll.")
Today, "I Want to Love You" is one of my biggest downloads on the Internet mostly by the Europeans.
I had been signed with John Wagner Studios in Albuquerque and he released it on his Delta record label. Incidentally, a mint condition of this 45 has a collectors' value of more than $1,000.
So, for what it's worth, here it is:
