I agree completely with Sue and David.

The question is, what could be M.E.'s angle on this?

I understood that she sold ALL rights to Buddy's likeness and story years ago for a large lump sum.

Unless the lawyers have found a loophole, I can only imagine
she may have demanded payment to offer up new quotes and suddenly recalled "memories".

I sincerely feel as though a MASSIVE amount of skepticism
is required here.

I have NO use for nearly all contemporary performers who may have offered up opinion for this book. They almost always come across as having heard no more than 3 or 4 Buddy Holly songs, and seem to get their opinions from the 1978 film.

If there had been a follow up to the Goldrosen book (in say, 1985), a well funded and studious attempt to fill all the gaps that included the amazing research of Bill Griggs as well as at length interviews (with more than superficial questions) with many of those who have since left us, we would truly have a book worth investing in. Intimidation from M.E.'s lawyers likely made that a non starter

It's a shame to be so cynical, but with M.E. in a position of over-site, it's impossible to be otherwise.
