I think it's important to remember that biopics aren't intended for diehard fans. We know everything there is to know.

To the general public, though, the most they might know of even the most famous of artists is a few songs and maybe a tidbit about their life.

Roger Daltrey has been trying to get a Keith Moon biopic off the ground for decades now. He's grappling with every script just portraying Keith as the wild man that he was. That's not the story he wants told. I think the key to success with these films is to give the casual fans and general public what they want, and then try to sneak in a few glimpses into the "real" person behind the public persona.

We fans already own all of the music, but these films do such a great job of reigniting the popularity of older artists and introducing their music to people who were generally unfamiliar. To that end, even if they're inaccurate, surely that's a great thing.
