My understanding of it was that it was supposed to be made for the 50th Anniversary of their passing, wasn't it. That would have put it's completion date around 2009, so 16 years ago.

16 years ago, DVD sales were bigger,more of the original era fans (who would have attended the WDP shows) would have been alive, and being focused on a significant anniversary date all would have played in favor of the documentary, at least I think they would have.

Yes, things are different now, but at the time of its completion, the documentary could have been well received.
