We are still accepting film submissions and volunteers for our 2005 Eerie Horror Film Festival.... read on...

Overlooked, underrated, and often misunderstood, independent horror movies have been virtually ignored and shunned by the mainstream film industry since it began more than a century ago.

Through the decades however, these films have entertained and thrilled audiences around the world and continue to grow in popularity to this very day. There is an incredible amount of talent in this field that goes unnoticed and unappreciated, and we are proud to announce that the Great Lakes Film Association hopes to play a small role in reversing this trend.

With the call for entries for the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival, we expanded our categories to accept science-fiction and horror movies as we felt as though we were over looking a very popular and important genre. For many filmmakers, horror is the subject of many of their initial productions.

For the independent film community these films are often stepping-stones in a filmmaker's career and many are high quality productions, worthy of placement in almost any film festival.

The response to our call for entries was so overwhelming that we decided to create a separate festival dedicated solely to these films in order to give filmmakers and writers in the horror /sci-fi genres a venue to have their work showcased to people in the industry and to share their hard work with other filmmakers and fans.

In October of 2004, the first annual EERIE HORROR FILM FESTIVAL took place at the Roadhouse Theater in Erie, Pennsylvania. Showcasing nearly thirty movies in three days and joined by special guests Sean David Morton, Jamian Snow and Mark Borchardt, the Festival was a huge success.

That same year we were able to present the North East, U.S. premiere of the movie "SAW", which we were able to screen weeks in advance of the actual release date thanks to the participation of Lions Gate Films.

It is our hope that the EERIE HORROR FILM FESTIVAL will continue to grow and attract new talent from around the world and provide fans and filmmakers with a chance to view movies that they would otherwise be unable to see.

We are pleased to announce that we will also have special celebrity guests with us each year, all of whom have played some kind of major role in the field of independent horror/sci-fi filmmaking. We believe that this will give filmmakers and fans alike a rare opportunity to meet their inspirations and to talk with them one on one about production, technique and behind-the-scenes stories.

Our ultimate goal however, is to know that we somehow played a small role in finding the next Hitchcock, Spielberg or Scorsese. We know you are out there!

The EERIE HORROR FILM FESTIVAL takes place every October, at the Road House Theatre in the great city of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Our 2005 event will feature Gunnar "Leatherface" Hansen from the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", Lloyd "Toxic Avenger" Kaufman, Academy Award nominated director John Hancock, Screenwriter Dorothy Tristan, filmmaker Ben Meade, legendary Mark Borchardt ("American Movie")and more to be announced!

The Roadhouse is a wonderfully spooky community theater and is the perfect location for a horror festival. The seating is quite comfortable and there is a cafe with refreshments and snacks within the theater that will be open at all hours of our event. The Roadhouse is also within walking distance of Erie's downtown district where attendees can find restaurants, taverns and fast food. Feel free to ask us for suggestions on what to do or where to go while you are here with us.

Erie itself is only a short drive from the cities of Cleveland, OH, Buffalo, NY, and Pittsburgh, PA.

Hope to see you at the Fest!
