Carolyn,
Well, your options are dependent on what your contract stated and what the laws are in your state. If you had any outstanding phone bills, any vacation/sick/personal time that you used but had not yet earned, then those can be deducted from your final check in most states. I would contact the family in writing (not e-mail) and make a copy of the letter for your records. Most states require that you receive your last paycheck within 30 days or on the last day of the final pay period, whichever comes first. However, if your contract states (like mine does) that the final paycheck is due on the final day of employment, then they should have had it ready and waiting for you at the end of your last day. So, check your contract and then go from there. But put everything in written (Paper) form so that you can document it if you continue to have problems collecting.
