Subject: Pay for nannies in DC/Northern VA area

Hello!

I've been working as a nanny in the Northern VA area for almost 4 years. I have a question about what other nannies are being paid in this area. I haven't gotten a raise in pay since I started working with the family and I'm beginning to think that I'm being taken advantage of because I'm so close to them (I've known them for many years.) I've been having car problems lately, which is cutting my spending money down to almost nothing. With no offer to help out in any way, the father asked a couple weeks ago if I ever thought about getting a second job, which I took offense to and didn't say anything to him. I don't have the time for another job with the hours that I work. Also, my car is required for my job in order to drive the kids to their various after-school activities. I'm getting very frustrated with things and I don't really know how to approach the situation.

If there is anyone in the area that wouldn't mind sharing their pay with me or just talking about my current situation, please leave a message here or feel free to e-mail me at Tygger97@aol.com.

Thanks for listening!

This is for both Missy and Maranda:
Are you a live-in or live-out nanny? Do you get any benefits in addition to your pay? Do they pay your taxes or do you have to pay them? (Is the $500 before or after taxes?)For Maranda... do they provide a car for you to transport the kids in or are you expected to use your own car/gas? All of that affects the pay scale.
