If she would be getting paid in addition to her regular pay, then yes, I would agree that it is unfair. I am very curious as to how your pay is figured if you get paid 24/7 for 365 days per year? I have never heard of that. Since contracts and fair pay are a huge issue to me and I try to stay on top of trends in the industry, I would love it if you could share it with me. If you are comfortable doing so, please e-mail me directly at tripletnanny@msn.com. This would be especially helpful as I am doing the session at the NAN conference this year on contract negotiations and would want to share any/all options for nannies who might be in your situation. I personally get paid a flat, hourly rate, with a guaranteed salary as a live-out, with time and a half for anything beyond 40 hours per week. As a live-in, I have a flat, guaranteed weekly salary for up to 50 hours per week, with time and a half comp time for any hours worked beyond 50 hours per week. Thanks for the help!@

Tonya, I went to the newsletter yesterday and read
>your article. We agree on most everything relating to

>>Julie,
>>I clearly understood that you get paid while you are
>>on vacation with the families, so please don't be
>>offended. What I disagree with is any nanny, live-in
>>or not, not getting paid if she is working overnight.
>>If you are sharing a room with the children, or are
>>on-call, then you are working and should get paid
>>accordingly. And, you are lucky to work for a family
>>who seems to appreciate and respect you, and not take
>>advantage. Many nannies are not so lucky. Part of
>>what these boards are all about is for nannies who are
>>informed, experienced, and well taken care of, to
>>help educate those who are not so informed or
>>experienced. You can do that, but you need to make
>>sure that you are communicating it well. While you
>>said that you get paid, the rest of your e-mail made
>>it sound like the nanny who asked about all this
>>should just be grateful to get to go on a trip and not
>>expect to be paid for her time. I am sure that is not
>>what you meant, but it is how your e-mail came across.
>> I personally get paid 24 hours a day if I travel with
>>my family. It is an inconvenience to me, as it takes
>>me out of my daily routine, away from my husband and
>>friends, away from my personal time, the gym, etc. It
>>often means no computer or telephone communication,
>>and long hours with not much to do. So I am paid
>>around the clock. I am also available for evening
>>babysitting at their request at any time while
>>traveling, and help from breakfast to bedtime.
>>Please, all of you, go to the main NAN page, click on
>>the special April Jobs Issue, and read the travel
>>article. It clears it all up for you!

>>>If you guys read my message clearly you would have
