Lisa,
While that may seem like a simple question, it is actually very hard to answer. The biggest factors that it will depend upon are as follows: 1) Your experience level. If you are just starting out as a nanny, you deserve and will likely be paid less than a nanny who has 5 years experience, and she will earn less than a nanny with 10, who will, in turn, earn less than say, I do, with 17 years of experience. 2) Your education level. A nanny with a HS education understandably earns less than one with a college education, but often a nanny with simply an AA in ECE earns more than one with a degree in accounting, for example. 3)Your geographic area. Nannies living in NY, DC, LA, SF, Atlanta, Seattle, etc... earn more than those living in Kansas City, Sante Fe, Oklahoma City, etc... It really depends on the pay scale for your area. Phoenix, where I live, is on the lower end, even though it is the 5th largest city in the US. 4) Your job responsibilities. If you are at a job where you do nothing but hang with the kids, it is going to pay less than a job where you are handling carpool, doctors appointments, grocery shopping, meal prep, laundry, etc... 5) The age and configuration of the children. For example, at my job, I have a 5 1/2 year old and 2 1/2 year old triplets. I charge this family more than I would a family with 2 school agers, a pre-teen and a teenager. It is more responsibility and more work. 6) The length of time you have been at the job. A job you are just starting is going to pay less than if you have been there for 4 years. You should receive raises each year, even if they are small ones as a reward for length of service and cost of living increase.
I hope now you understand why there is not a clear answer to your question. My best suggestion is to call an agency in your area (or more than one), give them your job criteria, and your experience and ask them what you can expect to make in your geographic area for that job.
