I am from Sweden and I had to find me a job as I am by myself in USA.
I was happy when I got a job as a living-in-nanny as I like kids and like to be at home.
The contract said nanny/housekeeper but in my happiness did I thought it meant light housekeeping.
From the start it was a easy job but it become to be more housekeeping after some days.
Today do I work more as a housekeeper than a nanny. We were only talking about nanny job from the beginning so I didn't took it so serious when it said housekeeping.
Today do I go up 6.15 in the morning and prepare the boy for the school and walk with him to the bus-stop and I meet him after school at the bus stop.
The little girl of 4 is also with us.
Then I go home and do the beds, both parents and kids beds.
Both parents and kids never pick up anything they drop on the floor and they do a great mess most of the time.
I do laundary 3 times in the week for the whole family and hang in both parents and kids clothes.
I vacuum clean the house every day, it's a two floor house. And sweep the floors, dust and clean up 3 bathroom every day. I cooking for the girl and my duty is to clean up the kitchen, it means to clean everything !! The mother always make a mess when she cooking and never clean up after herself. They don't even can clean their plates and put it in the sink.
I clean up the whole house. The parents come home and cook food and watch TV ( pogram that the kids choose ), give the kids a bath and go to bed.
They eat in the whole house and I have to go around and pick up after the whole family ( 2 adult + 2 kids )
They never take away food so I have to check so their is no food left outside until they go to sleep.
I never know the schedule for the week sometimes their mother is at home at 1 sometimes 5 in the afternoon and sometimes she works nights.
It can be to 6 o'clock so I work almost 12 hours, if they are late they don't pay me for over-time, they espect me to work all the time when they feel for it.
I am off weekends but if I am home I have to work when they feel for it so I have to go out from the house in the weekends even if I have no place to go to.
They allowed their kids to open my room when ever the kids like to talk to me or make me serve them.
The kids are in my room when I am not at home, the parents doesn't say anything about it.
I have to work even if the mother is back home at 1 my day seldom ends before 5 in the afternoon.
I try to play with the kids at least for 2 hours every day.
The kids are very wild as they have no rules in their home and I am not allowed to put up any rules. The kids dominates the whole house.
In the contract does it says that I have free food but the kids make the decision what to eat in the house so their is only kids food :
snacks like chips, candies, cookies....
The kids eat only fries,chicken nuggets, macaroni cheese, milk and egg so there is not much to eat for me as they choose what to buy home.
I have to buy my own food for the money I earn.
In the contract does it says also computer in my room so I had a 233mhz computer that broke down after 2 monthes and then didn't I got another one so I had to buy me my own computer.
It was cable on my TV in my room but then did they change provider and now I have not more than the ordinary channels.
They also took away the access to the Internet when they change the provider.
I had to buy my own Internet.
The girl have start to go to school twice a week and those day do I have to do deep cleaning the whole day like laying on my knees on the floor and do closer cleaning, clean closets, cleaning the carpet by hand....
From the beginning did they said that they should pay me $600 per monthes but in the contract did it says $500 per monthes.
I don't get extra paid for over-time or if their is other kids in the house or their relatives to clean up after...
I was teacher in Sweden and I have a master degree in Psychology, I am 50 and feel like I am used and a slave.
Maybe they have the right to treat me this way and I have wrong ? I want to hear your opinion about it, please....
Is $500 per monthes good paid ?
