I got my braces yesterday - top and bottom metal brackets. When my girlfriend saw me for the first time she, 1.put her hand in front of her mouth and laughed, and 2.said, "oh my God!" and then 3. asked me to smile, saying "let me see, let me see." Saying things like "wow", "Ahhh", etc. And this was in the ortho's waiting area. Her spectacle caused of course the other patients to want to see. So there I am like a science experiment showing off my new braces to a bunch of complete strangers! I think that's the hardest part of braces. Getting over your initial reaction to seeing all that metal and then your friend's reactions. Everyone is curious. People do look at you differently. We went to McD's after, I have never sucked on a hamburger before :). (that was fun) The girl at the counter focused right on my braces. Most people it seems do, they look at your braces and then your eyes. So I guess you have to get used to that. I did it all the time before I got mine, you just can't believe how someone can talk with all that metal. But it is possible! I am proof!
