Mga Kadugo,
Agyamanak kadaguiti birthday greetings yo. I am now just 4 years shy of being a senior citizen (!). Belated birthday greetings to Liezel, Lorraine, Steve and Portia and to all of you whose birth dates have come and gone. May we always be sensitive to God’s bountiful blessings (nga saan nga maung-ungpot!)
Agyamanak met iti nabuslon ken nabara nga panangawat ken panangipategyo kadagiti reports, uray no napalalo ti bayagna sakbay nga ma post. Bless you! Adtoy ngarud dagiti sumarsaruno.
Part 2. July 26 (Partly written on August 10…..)
We were back at the camp site on July 26. There were some 21 of us who made it (Ludwig, Mark, Pros, Prosen, Delio, Sam Q., Likha, Annie, Blessing, Bibsy, Vernon, Jojo, Susan, Israel, Jess, Billie and their children, and Aie) Also, four (4) from CONDORA came with a sackful of seeds for our hedgerows and dozens of varied seedlings, too. Adu ti saan nga nakaumay ta kalkalpas ti napigsa nga bagyo (Harurot) and Pangasinan was one of the hardest hit provinces. Imbag pay ta nakasangpet dagidiay taga Nueva Ecija ta kasla kano taaw dagiti taltalon. I had to change plans myself. Instead of going home to Umingan the previous night for an early tricycle ride to Cacabogaoan (I was warned a Balungao bridge was not passable, destroyed by the typhoon), I took a dawn trip that proved to be almost unterminable! I got to the site alright, after one bus, one jeepney, one tricycle and finally, a rat patrol ride with Vernon.
We had the memorial and dedication service before lunch and the tree planting afterwards (nakaya mi laeng manen ti nagmula idiay Conference Farm ta nalubo unay ti dalan nga mapan idiay Ramos campsite).
We hoped you were with us in spirit as I sent you the liturgy earlier. We had a circle of love and prayer for many concerns (for those who are sick, recuperating, were burdened with family problems…) The moment for shared lives was light but meaningful (It was at this point that Dave called but it went pffft ta low bat…no foresight again! Sorry Dave). The dedication of the DZ Lane was symbolic. We had a big stone ‘offered’ that will be mounted at the entrance of the lane like a marker. We will make it a ‘tradition’ for everyone who goes to the campsite nga mangpidot iti bato idiay malabsan nga waig for a stone finish to the lane tapno saanto nga nalubo uray napigsa iti tutdtudo. Blessing (of Annie) rendered a beautiful "Great is Thy Faithfulness" song arrangement that capped the celebration.
We had one kalding ‘sacrificed’ for lunch, and Annie and Billie cooked the best tasting ginataan nga bisukol (by popular request)! And I was prevailed upon to produce a bottle of ‘spirit’ (dida met kaya nga inibus, lallakay dan!). It was a ‘CYF feast’ with all the trimmings of the good old days!
The meeting afterwards was a refinement of all those items taken up during the last meeting.
(1) The construction of the DZ Lane will be done after the rainy season tapno saan nga masayang ti kwarta ken bannog (Mark and Pros are very emphatic about that). While the long spell of heavy rains are good for the plants, it won’t be for the ‘earth lane’.
(2) The most promising of the income earning proposals was the candle making of Jess and the ‘rolling store’ of Annie and Atilinda during the General Assembly. Jess already attended a TLRC short course on candle making and raring to start. Kurang laengen ti market study. Admittedly, there would surely be a big market on November 1 and December. We decided then that since we will not be needing the money for the DZ Lane till the summer months, capital will be provided for both as short term investments (a better alternative to bank rates, I hope you all agree).
(3) General Assembly. We reiterated assignments. For meals: bring your own lunch for those arriving early, supper -Annie and Atilinda, breakfast-Tayug c/o Delio, lunch-Aie (and other volunteers!), snacks-Rizal, Bagasans c/o Bibsy and Emy (for the bonfire ta birthday ni Elijah, her youngest daughter). Ammomi nga saan nga problema ti makan ta uray anya laeng, mabalinen. And we were sure there would be more donors. Aie to prepare the liturgies and agenda. Annie to arrange for the use of the Ramos Farm as venue. Delio and Bibsy to be in charge of a Raffle. Pros, the in-house artist (!) will make studies on a Foundation logo to be presented to the Assembly for a final choice. He will also prepare the Assembly logo for the silkscreening of T-shirts (no awan awit mo nga T-shirt, gumatang ka idiay rolling store!). Bibsy will bring cellphone cards for sale (tapno awan rason nga adda maibusan iti load during the assembly. We would welcome calls from you out there). And of course, the Dugong CYF alkansiyas will be dedicated and received for the Trust Fund. Membership Data Sheets will be prepared by Annie and Aie to be filled out during the Assembly. Amin nga makaumay will form part of the initial expanded General membership list. "Kasano kami nga saan nga makaumay uray no kayatmi met koma?" you may ask, dakayo nga adda iti bangir ti taaw. Fill out the same form that we will posting in the website and we will include you in a special list. How about that? Absent ngem present. Hhhmmm. Mayat met?
There was also a memorial service at the Holy Cross on the same date, almost the same time. Dugong CYF who made it there were Peps, Emy and her kids, and Mil, not to mention Matt and his family. We were in touch through text messages. Glad asked me to prepare the liturgy and so I came up with almost the same liturgy as I sent you. In place of the DZ Lane dedication was an offering of flowers…each one present had a daisy to bring home…in the spirit of passing on the blessing of one’s life forces to others, as our very own Daisy did.
I got home at dusk (again, I was dropped off by Mark and company) to find a ‘heart rending sight’…..aftermath of the typhoon. Our house, for the first time in the history of Umingan, was not spared from a waist deep muddy flood water. Two recently built earth dams gave way under the fury of Typhoon Harurot. It was already three days after but a HUGE pile of muddy, water drenched books and albums were waiting for me (thanks to those who came to the rescue day after the flood) to be disposed of in any which way I decided (as if there were many alternatives!). Makapasangit but I buckled down to the difficult task of condemning lifelong collections to the trash bin. Another big lesson on ‘letting go’. But wonder of wonders…a bunch of all my yellowed CYF files (circa ‘70’s!) was safe and dry inside a sealed plastic bag…hmmm. .. I was under the scorching sun for days to dry whatever could still be saved (which wasn’t much). Inkuttungak ken kasla ak la natuno nga nagsubli iti Manila.
Part 3 will be more about the Dugong CYF Foundation General Assembly. Till then, SHALOM!
Aie
