Mga Kadugo,

Dispensarenyo koma ti panagulimek ko iti nabayag. Saan ko nga magebgeban ti partak ti paspasamak. Diak pay la nalpas ti maysa nga sursuratek, adda manen sabali. I keep reminding myself to just make it short but up to date. But on second thought (which prevails every time!), I write for 2 reasons (maybe 3). Umuna, kayatko koma nga kasla adda kayo met amin nga awan, kada adda aramid tayo (vicarious experience a kas kunada). Maikadua, isu metten ti running minutes kadakami nga regular nga agkakadua (we do have a ‘stretchable’ core group of 21 to 40 that cuts across generations…not bad, huh?) Maikatlo, tapno adda process documentation nga kasla ‘Aide Memoir’ for the next generation tapno saan laeng nga oral traditions ti ma i-pass on tayo. One time or the other, our memory will fail us. They might learn a lesson or two…no saan, at least ma entertain da, di ba? I also print each and every message from our web site. To date, we already have 6 volumes…and growing…..

So, for all those reasons, I hope you continue to bear with the loooooong (though much delayed!!!) reports.

The following, I wrote at different times. Palpasek pay koma sakonto I post ngem nabayag unayen, Might as well send them by parts. Otherwise, 10 pages ton before I am done. Won’t even try to edit anymore.

Part 1. June 28 (Partly written sometime in July…)

Atilinda already wrote about the June 28 tree planting (thanks Ati!) Nayunak laeng bassit. Steve, Dave (and Gladys) and Philip ‘joined’ us through the power of cellphone. It was a mini conference of sorts with Steve’s call since we used Bibsy’s phone which has a speaker. Nagkapuyan mi laeng amin ta awan met ti nagitugot iti charger. We all ran out of battery before the phone could go around when it was Dave’s turn. We were able to do only Tabita Hideaway (di na kayang maglakad!) We left the rest of the seedlings for the Ramos Campground at Jess’ place for the next tree planting. We met after lunch but not till Mark and Pros (who came late ta nagkali da pay ti some 2 dozens of guayabano saplings from Pros’ nursery) had planted their share of trees. We covered the following:

1. Trust Fund. The Dugong CYF Trust Fund now amounts to a total of Pp199,500.00+. It is in the Foundation’s PNB Saving’s Account. We have maintained it, including interest, as a special account, untouched, since it was launched. We decided to keep it that way while we build it up. We are considering though putting it on time deposit for higher interest rate, hindi rin lang naman gagalawin until it probably reaches a million (!) when we can start using the interest earnings for programs as provided in our concept paper. Meanwhile, please remember to fill up your Dugong CYF Alkansiya! (Mayat met latta no green nga papel, di ba Elsie? Dito sa Pilipinas, ang walang alkansya, tseke na lang, I saw some last time, right Elma?)

2. General Fund. A discussion of our financial position made us realize that we had been operating on practically zero (0) general funds. We did not notice because everybody has been so generous with personal donations. ‘Dakami ti makaammo daytan" , Donation namin ang isang cottage" or "Sige, kanya-kanyang baon or toka-toka" or "Ako ang bahala sa pagkain, kayo sa materials". No maminsan, pass the hat kasla idi napalabas nga Annual Conference…nagcontribute daguiti napan nga Dugong CYF tapno adda maited nga tulong idiay Conference. Uray daguiti adda iti bangir ti taaw, you had been so equally generous…tents, cottages, food for meetings, etc. etc. Loads of commitment and a lot of grace, that’s how we had been operating! Then someone blurted out, "Kasta tayo met uray idi CYF days..awan pondo tayo, ngem tuloy latta ti programa" . That was a reassuring thought, but we all agreed, we better do something about it this time; Foundation na tayo, and we have group obligations. It’s hard to be Treasurer at this point, but Bibsy has been holding on. We can do more than just give from our own personal earnings. It’s about time, we earned together as a Foundation. Paradigm shift, huh? It took a long while, but I hope we’re getting there. The start-up period is coming to an end, now it’s serious business of raising funds. We therefore came up with several income generating ideas, for starters, and assigned people to prepare the necessary feasibility studies:

a. Tilapia production (Tabita Hideaway pond)---Sammy Q and Jess (Mark volunteered to donate the initial tilapia fingerling
b. Cash crops production (to start with dwarf papaya)---(Aie volunteered to provide the dwarf papaya seeds from Manila Seedling Bank)
c. Reproduction (‘Xerox’) services---Atilinda
d. Cellphone cards marketing---Bibsy
e. Candle production and marketing---Jess (Jess already attended a scented candle making training at TLRC)
f. Long-term project proposal (maybe an agriculture-oriented training center) for funding assistance----Aie

3. Scholarship. We had an update from Clarisse. We also discussed the possibility of helping the Conference Scholarship Program by providing books or other materials that Conference Scholars can all share while in the seminary.

4. Conference Farm/Tabita Hideaway. The concrete posts for the fence have not been installed, awaiting the construction of the access road. We need to put them up some time tapno saan da nga pagpastoran iti bakbaka. Inab-abog mi ti sanga dosenan sa nga baka. The cowherd (like shepherd?) feigned ignorance that the area had tree plants (awanen a ta inibus dan!!!)

5. Access Road. The total cost of coming up with the access road goes well beyond the amount we have already generated (about Pp12T) for the purpose. Ti nangina diay earth moving equipment. We also have to ensure that there will be one available, timed with good weather. Dapat dry season, otherwise, no saan nga tuloy-tuloy ti trabaho, adu ti masayang nga effort and the cost would stretch. After a lot of brain storming, we thought of asking Steve if he would agree to use the fund he sent earmarked for "something" in memory of Daisy, for the access road and call it….DZ Avenue! (Yes, Steve, that was the exact moment you called. "I like the idea", you said. We did, too. I have long ceased to be surprised at such coincidences. God always makes a way—literally and symbolically!)

6. Daisy’s 1st Anniversary. Finished or not finished, we agreed it would be best to dedicate the access road on Daisy’s 1st ‘homegoing’ anniversary. We were able to get in touch with Gladys to inform the family that the Dugong CYF would have a memorial service on July 26 at the campsite. There would also be one at the Holy Cross Memorial Park but she assured me it would be okay.

We decided to go and visit Fred in Villasis afterwards. Nagbalon kami iti adobo nga pato nga pinarti ni Jess. We (Mark, Pros and Prosen, Sammy Y., Atilinda and kids ken siak) went in Mark’s jeep. He was his old jolly self. Nakarugrugit kami but I guess he was happy to see us, ling-et and all. Sayang ta di pay nakaluto ni Joy iti kankanen idi napanmi indagas da Atilinda. Ginulpi mi koma! Rabiin idi indagas dak da Mark idiay Umingan on their way back to Nueva Ecija. A tiring but meaningful day for all of us.

Shalom everyone!

PS. Boy T., kasano ti ag-attach ti pictures ditoy website? Is that possible?
