I wish I were there for the Dugong CYF arbor day. It should be a good turnout. I'll have my share in the next few months. Before I left Natividad last month I asked one of the farmhands to root cuttings of alukon (baeg), marunggay, endemic fruit trees, etc., and germinate seeds of acacia and other tree species for planting in Cabalisian, including the CYF permanent campsite. The cuttings (a few hundreds) have started to grow shoots and in a few months they should be ready for planting. With rooted cuttings, the rate of survival is higher. I'll be taking home a more powerful rooting hormone for the hard-to-root species. We should be able to cover the area with different kinds of tree species, fruit trees, etc. It's a 5-year program I've launched.
I'm glad Dave has found an area along Parasapas Creek for a possible picnic grove. We'll develop that. By the way, Vic and I are considering seriously of damming downstream a creek between our two hills (the camp is within my hill) to impound the rainwaters so we'll have water on demand as well as resuscitate a lot of springs within the area. Of course, we can stock the pond with tilapia, hito, and dalag, as well as shrimps for jumping salads.
Hopefully I'll be back by the end of September in time for the Dugong CYF First Assembly. I'll undergo surgery to remove a swollen parotid gland below the left ear set for July 22 at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. After a two-month recovery, I should be able to travel in a pressurized cabin without any discomfort.
Regards to the Dugong CYFers. Plant more and more trees for our patrimony and a livable world!

Ped
