I'll take a stab at it. In the late 90's, Bob Billyard, from Canada, hosted a Mondioring seminar in Canada with Rene Sagarra. During that timeframe, Bob became a judge, and there were a few (not sure how many) trials there in Canada. I am not terribly clear on the origins in Canada.
Several Americans were involved, including Kathy O'Brien and Neal Wallis, who was also a judge at that time. The sport did not really take off here, for a variety of reasons. Initially, the American organization (or 'group') was operating under the auspices of the CRA (Canadian Ring Association). After a seminar in Colorado hosted by Jeff White, I became involved. Jeff and I organized the 'second phase' of Mondioring in America in 2000, forming the USMRA with the help of many people and an extremely supportive group of Texans in our club. Shortly after that beginning, we applied for membership in the AWDF. Our application was accepted, and we are a full member of that organization. It is the AWDF that provides us with the connection needed to compete internationally. The guest status with the FCI is our link to Mondioring.
There have been approximately 15 trials held in the three and a half years of USMRA's existence. Twenty five decoys have certified at a variety of levels. Thanks to Kathy O'Brien and her late and incredible Bomber, the United States has been represented at the International Championship several times. Two years ago, we were on the podium (third) in MR I with Neal Wallis and his bitch.
Our current Board of Directors is an enthusiastic group of committed individuals. Sandra Mannion, President. Augusta Farley, Vice President. I am Secty Treas. Directors are Don Lee, Ed Reynolds, Francis Metcalf, Laura Harris. Watch for good things to come from this Board. To name a few....a newsletter, new rulebooks, new website, and many revisions in the organizational structure of USMRA.
Beginning an organization is a huge undertaking, and it literally takes people like our current Board has on it to wade through the tons of work to get it done. Each member is contributing bigtime, and I am awed by the committment. The most impressive thing I have seen so far in Mondioring is it's ability to remain relatively politics free. Certainly, there is no such thing as NO politics in an organization, but this one is as close as it gets! Hats off and THANKS to our current Board!!!
