LONDON, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Nokia , the world's biggest mobile handset maker, and smaller British peer Psion Plc are not in talks over a takeover of Psion by the Finnish firm, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.

"There are no discussions taking place and there are no plans for discussions to take place," said the London-based source.

Psion shares earlier rose over 11 percent after Britain's Business newspaper reported that Nokia was considering buying Psion, although the stock later pared those gains to trade up 7.3 percent at 81 pence by 1020 GMT.

Officials at Nokia and Psion declined to comment on the report
