Fred, it's all very confusing. Ordnance used to entail supply, maintenance, weapons etc. Somewhere along the line maintenance was separated out at least in designation. When the 618 Ord (Maint)Co(DS) arrived in Qui Nhon in 65 it was relocated lock stock and barrel to Phu Tai Valley and re designated Hq & Main Support Co 5th Maint Bn as told to me by Angelo Enciso and Sidney Nation who were there at the time. Now the confusion, the 618th Ord (Maint) Co shows up somewhat later in charang valley as the 618th Maint Co attached to the 86th Maint Bn but where did it's people and equipment come from ??? The Army in it's infinite wisdom found a way to keep us old farts busy trying to figure all this stuff out.
